Babie Blankie Crochet Pattern | Attach to an Amigurumi Toy

Some call it "Lovey" some others call it "Blinkie" or "Blankie" and of course, many would just say "baby blanket"....   No matter what it's called, it serves, among others, a great duty of comforting dear little ones.  I know my niece and nephew are unable to sleep without their own little blinkies.  My niece, now almost 8, still have her very first blinkie with her.

Do you like giving your kids a "security blanket" as well?

Amigurumi Baby Blanket crochet Pattern

Crochet this lovely Blankie for your little one or as a gift to a very special new mom. This lovely blanket maybe used on it's own or attached to a matching crocheted toy. This pattern may seem long, but really, the pattern is very easy to follow. Starting from Row 5, you can even crochet along without the written pattern anymore... All it takes is getting yourself familiar with it in the first few rows.

You will need:

Light weight (sport, baby or size 3) yarn
Size 4.5 mm hook

Abbreviations:

ch - Chain
sc - single crochet
dc - double crochet
rem - remaining
sl st - slip stitch
fpdc - front post double crochet
f/o - fasten off
begch2spst - beginning chain-2 space stitch {(chain 3, dc, chain 2, 2 dc) on the same chain 2 space)} (please see pattern notes)
ch2spst - {2 dc, chain 2, 2 dc} on the same chain-2 space)} (please see pattern notes)

Notes:

a. In order to have the "ruffle effect" on your blankie (baby security blanket) make a double crochet (dc) on either side of the front post double crochet (fpdc).  Without this, the blankie will lay flat. The fpdc's will form the indent on the blankie.  You may alter this pattern to add more "points and indents" as you wish.  For this pattern, I have 8 points.  You may decrease to 5 to obtain a "star-shaped" blankie.

b.  Chain-2 spaces will consist of the following stitches: 2 dc, chain 2, 2dc
(The beginning ch-2 space stitch starts with chain 3. The first chain 3 counts as one dc)  This chain2-space stitches will create the pointed part of the blankie.

c.  Join with a slip stitch (sl st) on the 3rd chain of first ch-3 to end a row.

d.  You may increase or decrease the number of rows depending on how large you'd like your blankie to be. You may also attach the blankie to an amigurumi (crocheted toy) for some added security and cuteness.  I posted the link to this elephant amigurumi on my last post here.
